Elirion.net Migration to New ServerStatusThe migration is complete and we're doing some final cleaning up. (We apologize for the short outage following the migration that may have resulted in you being unable to check your email or access the Elirion.net home page.) IntroductionElirion, Inc. will be moving all its elirion.net customers over to a new mail and personal web hosting server. This move is currently scheduled for 9:30 a.m. EST/EDT on Friday, August 7th, 2009. We expect the move to take about one hour. The move will result in a few changes to the services provided to customers using elirion.net e-mail and personal web hosting. This document outlines those changes. Who is Affected by the Change? This applies only to customers using email addresses ending in elirion.net, or using personal web hosting on members.elirion.net. Customers on dial-up only plans will not be affected by the move. Why are we making this change? Our elirion.net customers are currently on an older version of our hosting platform. The change will give you the benefits of the updated hosting platform, including better spam detection and control over how spam is handled, as well as improved security and reliability. ChangesHandling the ChangeWe recommend you avoid checking your email or altering your personal web site during the migration. Minor changes may be needed to your email program settings. No changes to the setting of your web design program will be needed to use personal web hosting. We recommend that after the migration you reboot your computer before visiting elirion.net or downloading e-mail so that you pick up the address of the new server. (You may also be able to get Windows computers to pick up the new address by executing "ipconfig /flushdns" in a command window.) Mail SettingsMinor changes to your email program settings may be required. You can make these now, before the migration takes place. The new version of personal control panel requires you to log in with a username in the form of an email address. It will no longer accept simple user names like "john"; you must include the @elirion.net domain name, so you must use "john@elirion.net". The current control panel also accepts the long user names, so you can make this change before the migration takes place. If you need help changing your mail program settings, please contact us at the main office or the tech support desk. Web MailOur web mail program will be a newer version Horde. You can access it at https://webmail.elirion.net Sending E-mailPlease continue to send via smtp.elirion.net when dialed up. You still cannot send via smtp.elirion.net when not dialed up. If you want to send from another computer when not dialed up, please use the other ISP's outgoing mail server when sending as your Elirion address. For More InformationIf you have any questions about the migration, please contact us. |
