Elirion.net Migration to New ServerStatusThe migration was successfully completed on Monday, January 7th, 2008. We are still fixing up features on the elirion.net web sites. IntroductionElirion, Inc. will be moving all its elirion.net customers over to a new mail and personal web hosting server. This move is currently scheduled for 10 a.m. EST/EDT on Monday, January 7th, 2008. We expect the move to take about one hour. The move will result in a few changes to the services provided to customers using elirion.net e-mail and personal web hosting. This document outlines those changes. Who is Affected by the Change? This applies only to customers using e-mail addresses ending in elirion.net, or using personal web hosting on members.elirion.net. Customers on dial-up only plans will not be affected by the move. Customers buying any of our web hosting plans will also not be affected. Why are we making this change? Our elirion.net customers are currently on our old hosting platform. The change will give you the benefits of the new hosting platform, including better spam detection and control over how spam is handled. ChangesHandling the ChangeWe recommend you avoid checking your e-mail or altering your personal web site during the migration. After the migration, no changes should be needed to your e-mail program. Minor changes to the setting of your web design program will be needed to use personal web hosting. We recommend that after the migration you reboot your computer before visiting elirion.net or downloading e-mail so that you pick up the address of the new server. (You may also be able to get Windows computers to pick up the new address by executing "ipconfig /flushdns" in a command window.) Personal Control PanelThe URL for your personal control panel will change from http://members.elirion.net/personal to https://members.elirion.net:8443/ Spam FilteringThe spam filtering system for e-mail will change. The new spam filter can be configured by you in your personal control panel. The new spam filter needs to be trained for maximum effectiveness. During the migration, the spam filter will be set to mangle subject lines on e-mails that are probably spam. If this is not what you want, please log in and change the settings after the server change has been completed. Web MailOur web mail program will change from NeoMail to Horde. The new web mail program will be at http://webmail.elirion.net To log into Horde you need to use your e-mail address and password, not your user name (without @elirion.net) as you did with NeoMail. All NeoMail folders will be moved over, but no NeoMail settings. So, if you use web mail you'll need to check the settings the first time you log into Horde. If possible, please empty your NeoMail trash folder just before the migration as this may make the migration complete sooner. procmailA few of our customers use the procmail program for custom e-mail filtering, for example for splitting e-mail digests or for moving spam into a folder instead of downloading it. If you're making use of procmail for mail filtering, please be aware that the new server doesn't currently support procmail. We hope to resolve problems using procmail on the new server in the near future. Personal Web HostingYour personal web hosting, if you use it, will continue to be at http://members.elirion.net/~username/ Uploading with FrontPage using HTTP will no longer be supported. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you. Unfortunately, Microsoft has made FrontPage obsolete and it's becoming increasingly difficult to support it. You can still upload from FrontPage using FTP. Set the publishing URL to ftp://ftp.elirion.net/ The folder layout in FTP changes slightly. There's no web folder anymore. When you log in you're in the folder where web pages should go. If your FTP program has an "initial directory", set this to "/". Sending E-mailPlease continue to send via smtp.elirion.net when dialed up. You still cannot send via smtp.elirion.net when not dialed up. If you want to send from another computer when not dialed up, please use the other ISP's outgoing mail server when sending as your Elirion address. You can send via members.elirion.net when not dialed up. However, the new server will not let you send automatically if you have just checked your e-mail. You will need to configure your e-mail program to log into the server to send e-mail. Contact us for details. For More InformationIf you have any questions about the migration, please contact us. |
